City Warming Stations and Cold Weather Preparedness
In light of the ongoing cold weather conditions over the next few days, the City urges residents to take precautions against potential health risks associated with extreme cold temperatures.
Be Prepared During Cold Temperatures:
- Dress warmly in layers and cover all exposed skin.
- Wear wind-resistant outer layers and insulated, waterproof footwear.
- Stay dry and change out of wet clothing promptly.
- Keep moving to maintain blood flow and body heat.
- Drink warm fluids and avoid caffeinated or alcoholic beverages.
- Watch for signs of windburn, frostbite, and hypothermia.
- Regularly check on your elderly neighbours to ensure their well-being during cold spells. Help with tasks like shoveling snow, fetching groceries, or ensuring their heating systems are functioning properly.
- Build an Emergency Kit and create your own Emergency Plan.
