Home and Cottage Expo Takes Place May 11 & 12 in Owen Sound

The 2024 Home and Cottage Expo will be held at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre and JD McArthur Arena on Saturday, May 11, and Sunday, May 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is a partnership with the City of Owen Sound, Knights of Columbus, and Grey Bruce Home Builders Association. 

The show will feature 140 indoor and 12 outdoor exhibitors from across Ontario, many well-known local businesses, interactive displays, activities for kids, a section on Green Energy and Climate Action, and 30 Marketplace home-based businesses in the upper concourse of the JD McArthur arena.  

For eventgoers, it’s a great chance to meet contractors, interior designers, landscapers, home improvement specialists, outdoor recreation dealers, consumer electronics suppliers, and more - all in one convenient location. It’s the perfect place to pair up residents and visitors to services available for their upcoming renovation, plus a chance to speak with building officials about permits and plans you may need. 

Eventgoers can win one of three price packages worth $1000 each by collecting stamps from participating businesses on the Show Passport. Passports and the show guide are available at the entrances. The draw will take place on Monday, May 13, and winners will be notified by phone, email, or social media. 

On Sunday, May 11, we celebrate Mother’s Day by presenting the first 300 moms with a flower donated by McDonald’s Flower Cart. 

In addition, the City’s Planning and Building staff will have an informational booth set up at the Expo to provide information on the City’s Zoning By-law and ‘Additional Residential Units’ (ARUs). The City’s ARU guide was developed to assist homeowners in obtaining a building permit to develop an Additional Residential Unit within the City of Owen Sound. When residents create ARUs, it's an investment that benefits the owner, future occupants, and the community.  

Homeowners and contractors will also have the opportunity to check out the City’s new permitting software, Cloudpermit. The platform allows anyone to apply for and view the status of your application anywhere, at any time.
