It is with deep sorrow and profound respect that the City of Owen Sound acknowledges the passing of Stew Taylor, a cherished former Mayor and dedicated public servant who passed away on December 20 at the age of 77 leaving behind a remarkable legacy of leadership and commitment to our community.

Stew Taylor devoted nearly two decades to serving the people of Owen Sound. From 1983 to 1994, he served as a City Councillor, and from 1995 to 2001, he took on the role of Mayor. As Mayor, his love for the city was evident in his work to bring the Junior A Platers hockey team to Owen Sound and ensure it remained under local ownership. Today, the Owen Sound Attack stands as a lasting source of community pride. Throughout his time as Councillor and Mayor, Mr. Taylor worked tirelessly to promote commercial development, guided the City’s reintegration into Grey County in 2000, and was instrumental in revitalizing the downtown core through the “Big Dig” project. His legacy is one of commitment, progress, and genuine care for the community he served.
