Leaf and Yard Waste Composting Site to Close for the Season  

Beginning at 5 p.m. on Monday, January 13, the Owen Sound Leaf and Yard Waste Composting Site, located at 2450 28th Avenue East, will be closed for the season. The site will remain closed until early April when spring weather permits easy access. 

The seasonal closure allows staff to focus on winter maintenance in other areas of the City.   

The Compost Site is currently open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.  A list of accepted items is available at OwenSound.ca/Compost.  Dumping of any materials at the closed gate is monitored and prohibited. 

All natural Christmas trees can be disposed of at the compost site, free of charge, until January 13.  Please make sure your tree can be composted properly by following our simple guidelines: 

• Remove all ornaments, decorations, lights, and tinsel 

• Do not leave your tree in a plastic bag or other material 

• Trees sprayed with snow foam cannot be accepted

• The City of Owen Sound’s Leaf and Yard Waste Composting Site is currently open to residents of the City of Owen Sound, Township of Georgian Bluffs and the Municipality of Meaford, free of charge.  

• The site is open seven days a week from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will be closed from Monday, January 13, 2025 at 5 p.m. until early April 2025.
