Mayor Ian Boddy Wins Municipal Stewardship Award at Nuclear Conference
Mayor Ian Boddy received the Municipal Government Stewardship Award from the Canadian Nuclear Isotope Council (CNIC) on Tuesday evening as part of the Canadian Nuclear Association’s conference in Ottawa. The award recognizes the excellence of an elected official who has emerged as a leader in promoting regional isotope production, workforce and talent development, and partnerships to strengthen the regional supply chain.
Upon accepting his award, Mayor Boddy recognized sharing the honour with the Southwestern Ontario Isotope Coalition (SOIC) partners, particularly his SOIC co-chairs Councillor Theron Solomon representing Gamzook’aamin aakoziwin , James Scongack from Bruce Power and CNIC, and Jessica Linthorne from the Nuclear Innovation Institute, as well as the SOIC’s growing membership. The SOIC was formed in June of 2023 with the goal of bringing together the region’s many strengths in supporting Canada’s national imperative and vision to increase the production, development, and use of medical isotopes in the global fight against cancer.
Mayor Boddy went on to say how proud he was to represent the City of Owen Sound during a very significant decade, being a part of the Clean Energy Frontier. “Just imagine,” Mayor Boddy said, “a coalition of industry, small business, health services, colleges and universities, and municipal governments—all speaking with one voice about the emerging opportunities for Ontario to become global leaders in the supply of lifesaving medical isotopes.”
The CNA 2025 Conference is focused on ‘practical and immediate solutions of how to turn ambition, on both large and small nuclear, into reality.’ The CNIC Awards are an annual celebration of individuals and organizations who have contributed to the ongoing growth and success of Canada's isotope industry.
