Natural Gas Leak Near Alpha Street

At approximately 1 p.m. today Owen Sound Fire and Emergency Services responded to the area of Alpha Street for a report of a significant Natural Gas leak.  Enbridge were on scene and requested Fire to attend to assist with an evacuation of houses in the area.  Enbridge has estimated it will take approximately 2 hours to stop the free flow of gas. 

Crews have the neighbourhood evacuated at this time and have made residents aware it will be approximately two hours before they will be allowed to return to their homes.  There is a significant odour of Natural Gas in the widespread area.  Natural Gas customers in approximately 50% of the City will be without gas service for an undetermined length of time.  Hydro One is also on scene at this time disconnecting and isolating electrical services in the area.  No restoration time of electricity is available currently. 

No injuries occurred as a result of the gas leak.

Evacuated residents are welcome to go to the Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library as a cooling centre and await notification from Owen Sound Fire and Emergency Services when they can return to their homes.

UPDATED AT 5:10 p.m. on Monday, July 29:

The Natural Gas leak has been isolated and repair to the line has begun.  All residents have now returned to the evacuated homes.

Gas services will be restored in select areas through out the evening. Electricity has restored to the area impacted by the disconnections.
