Owen Sound Stormwater Management Master Plan

The City of Owen Sound has initiated a Stormwater Management Master Plan (SWMMP) to develop a long-term plan for the safe and effective management of stormwater runoff.

The Study is being completed in accordance with Approach #2 of the Master Planning Process outlined in the Municipal Engineers Association Municipal Class Environmental Assessment document (March 2023). This Study is being undertaken to identify the existing drainage deficiencies across the City, develop alternative solutions to address these deficiencies, and identify the solutions, that best address the drainage concerns while protecting the public and environment, for implementation.

The Study area encompasses the entire City of Owen Sound (City). The existing drainage infrastructure consists of a combination of stormwater management facilities, storm sewers, culverts, overland flow routes and watercourses.

Two Public Information Centres (PlCs) will be scheduled in the future to provide an opportunity for the public and stakeholders to provide input and comments regarding the Study. Additional notices indicating the dates and locations of the PICs will be published in future.

The City has retained the consulting firm Tatham Engineering Limited to complete the SWMMP. Further details on the project or on the planning process being followed are available on the project website:

Public, Indigenous Community and Agency consultation is a key component of this study. It provides an opportunity for affected or interested stakeholders to exchange information and influence decision making. Subject to the successful completion of this SWMMP the City of Owen Sound plans to implement the recommended projects subject to future Council budget approvals.
