Owen Sound Announces Major Park Renewal Project in Partnership with Scenic City Order of Good Cheer at Kelso Beach at Nawash Park

The City of Owen Sound is thrilled to announce an exciting partnership with the Scenic City Order of Good Cheer to revitalize and enhance the playground and splash pad facilities at Kelso Beach at Nawash Park.

This collaboration promises substantial community benefits, focusing on inclusivity and renewed recreational spaces for residents and visitors alike.

The $500,000 total project will completely replace the existing playground and renew the existing splash pad, addressing critical asset renewal needs.  It will include fully replacing the current playground, which is 25+ years old, as well as revitalizing the 15-year-old splash pad.  The project is scheduled for design in 2025 and construction in 2026.

The City approached the Order with this partnership following the Club having explored other projects in the City.  The Order has generously pledged a minimum of $250,000, emphasizing its long-standing dedication to local projects like the Eastside Boat Launch and the Scenic City Order of Good Cheer Splash Pad.  This commitment involves five annual donations of $50,000 starting in 2025. The donation will match the City's existing capital budget, creating a comprehensive renewal project that enhances one of Owen Sound's most important community spaces.

Kelso Beach at Nawash Park is a critical community asset, hosting several significant annual events including Summerfolk, Canada Day celebrations, and the Keystone Family Fun Festival. The park spans over 24 acres and is located to be accessible by various transportation methods.

The play space renewal project prioritizes accessibility and inclusion, continuing the Order of Good Cheer's commitment to creating spaces that welcome individuals of all ages and abilities.  Public engagement will be a key component of the design process.
