Owen Sound Celebrates National Public Works Week!

The City of Owen Sound proudly acknowledges National Public Works Week, honouring the outstanding contributions of public works professionals from May 19 to 25, 2024. This annual celebration provides a significant opportunity to recognize the hard work and dedication of these individuals, who play a crucial role in enhancing and protecting our community's health, safety, and quality of life.

"National Public Works Week brings awareness to the essential services that our dedicated Public Works professionals make possible. If you can turn on the tap and get clean water, flush the toilet and it goes away, and safely travel to and from work, school, or activities throughout the day, you have a Public Works Employee to thank for that.  We encourage the community to join us in expressing our sincere appreciation for our Public Works' efforts and commitment to maintaining our quality of life. I am honoured to work alongside such a dedicated and skilled team and proudly recognize their accomplishments, not just during their special week, but all year,” said Lara Widdifield, Director of Public Works and Engineering.

Owen Sound’s Public Works staff deliver many critical services that our residents, businesses, and visitors rely on, such as traffic management, snow removal, road maintenance, water treatment and water mains, wastewater treatment and collection, and stormwater management. These services ensure our City runs smoothly, guaranteeing the protection, delivery, and safety of the community's most valuable resources.

The City of Owen Sound encourages everyone to acknowledge the important work of our Public Works employees and their daily commitment to the community. If you see a Public Works team member working in your neighbourhood, give them a friendly wave!
