Owen Sound Receives $1.75 Million in Provincial Grant Funding for City Watermain Project

Owen Sound is pleased to announce the City’s grant application was approved by the Ministry of Infrastructure and will receive provincial grant funding of $1,758,662 to support water main improvements at 32nd Street East and East Bayshore Road. This project will enhance the water system and facilitate the residential development of 712 units of new purpose-built rental housing in the City.

This funding is a part of the province’s Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund set up to help municipalities improve water infrastructure to support more housing and development. Through this program, the provincial government is providing help for municipalities to repair, rehabilitate and expand critical drinking water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure. Owen Sound was one of only 30 projects in rural municipalities to receive this funding.

  • Through the first round of the Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund, the province’s investment includes $456 million to support 30 projects in small, rural and northern municipalities without housing targets.This purpose-built housing development includes eight (8) six-storey apartment buildings, each with approximately 89 dwelling units for a total of 712 units.
  • This development maximizes the use of land, and existing municipal services and includes various off-site infrastructure improvements, including the construction of new sidewalks and multi-use pathways, that will increase pedestrian friendliness and walkability of the area
