Road Closure May to September 2024 for the Downtown River Precinct Phase 2 - 900 Block of 1st Avenue East

Construction on the 900 block of 1st Avenue East (from the north entrance at 10th Street East to the north side of The Sydenham Condominium building) as part of the Downtown River Precinct (DRP) Phase 2 is set to begin this week and is scheduled to end in September 2024. During the closure, there will be no through access. Shops and businesses in the area will remain accessible while the construction is underway, and pedestrian access will remain as much as possible. 

This construction will build an engaging urban environment along the river for residents and visitors alike. It will include paths that are easier and safer for people to walk on, new trees, a riverside boardwalk, and enhancements to business opportunities such as patios. 

The space will be able to change for different events and programs in the River District. The project will also improve accessibility and public safety through design, lighting, and programming. Future phases will include water access landings for short-term boat docking. 

The total budget for this project is $2 Million. It is partially funded by an OCIF (Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund) Grant and the Enabling Accessibility Fund (EAF) – Small Projects Component program.
