Significant Weather Event Remains Active
The City of Owen Sound wishes to remind residents and visitors that the previously issued Significant Weather Event remains in place. Subsequent snow squall weather patterns have caused delays in returning the City’s road and sidewalk infrastructure to an acceptable state.
The declaration of a Significant Weather Event is not a notice of a reduced level of service or a road closure. It is to notify the public that due to the current or forecasted conditions; caution is to be observed when travelling on roads and sidewalks maintained by the City. It may take longer than usual to bring the roads and sidewalks back to optimal conditions. All municipal streets and sidewalks are considered in a “state of repair” until an end to the Significant Weather Event is announced.
Surfaces such as roadways, sidewalks, walkways and parking lots may be icy, snow-covered, uneven and slippery. City forces are concentrating on these areas to ensure they are safe for the public.
A list of winter driving tips for motorists is as follows:
- Reduce speed and follow other vehicles at a safe distance so you can clearly see the road ahead and have enough stopping distance

- Pay close attention to road conditions, other vehicles, and pedestrians
