Temporary 2nd Avenue Closures for Seasonal Cross-Street Lighting Installation

City staff will be installing the seasonal Noma cross-street lights and removing the banners along Second Avenue East, closing one block at a time to minimize the disruption to visitors and businesses in the River District.

The removal schedule is as follows (timelines are approximate):

Thurs. October 31

700 block of 2nd Ave E

7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.

Thurs. October 31

800 block of 2nd Ave E

9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

Fri. November 1

900 block of 2nd Ave E

7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.

Fri. November 1

1000 block of 2nd Ave E

9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

All intersections from 7th Street East to 11th Street East will remain open and pedestrian access is available within the closures.  Blocks will re-open upon completion.

Customers in the River District are encouraged to utilize complimentary five-hour parking in long-term lots or two-hour on-street parking on unaffected streets during this service disruption.

  • The River District is home to 300 small businesses. You can find everything from freshly baked pastries and delicious meals to bikes and e-bikes to books and yarn.
  • Parking on the street is complimentary for up to two hours and up to five hours in municipally owned long-term parking lots. More than 800 spaces make parking convenient in the River District.
  • The Noma Lites company (Noma Electric Co. of Canada, based in Toronto) started making Christmas / decorative lighting products at their branch plant in Owen Sound in 1947, and in 1957, Noma Lites provided decorative lights for the main street to honour the 100th anniversary of Owen Sound.
