What’s Open & Closed in Owen Sound for Canada Day Weekend

It’s nearly time for the Canada Day – and Sound Waterfront Festival – weekend, and the City is reminding residents and visitors of facility closures, modified hours, and alternate programming.

 

City Hall:

Closed Monday, July 1. Regular hours of operation resume at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2.

 

Public Works:

Closed Monday, July 1. Regular hours of operation resume at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2.

 

Transit:

Owen Sound Transit (OST) and Mobility Transit does not run on Sundays and will not be running on Monday, July 1.  

Guelph Owen Sound Transit (GOST) will remain operating its regular schedule every day.

The Transit Terminal will be open 7 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. on Sunday and Monday to allow for access to washrooms and GOST.  

 

Waste Management:

The Transfer Station is closed on July 1, 2024.

There is no waste collection on Monday, July 1, as scheduled in the 2024 Waste Calendar.

 

Compost Site:

The Leaf & Yard Waste Compost Site will be open regular hours, 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

 

Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library:

The library is closed on Monday, July 1. It is open regular hours as of 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2.

 

Tom Thomson Art Gallery and Tourism Services:

The Art Gallery and Tourism Services will be open Saturday (June 29th) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, June 30, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and closed on Monday, July 1.

 

Council recently supported a pilot project to relocate Tourism, including summer Visitor Services, to the Art Gallery. This pilot will commence at the start of the May long weekend and extend to the end of 2024.

 

 

Parks and Open Space Facilities:

 

The public washrooms at Harrison Park will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Kelso Beach at Nawash Park will be home to The Sound Waterfront Festival and Canada Day celebrations this weekend.

 

The Greenwood Cemetery Office at 190 2nd Ave East will be closed on Monday, July 1 and will re-open on Tuesday, July 2 at 8:30 a.m.

 

Recreational Facilities:

The Julie McArthur Regional Recreation Centre will be closing early on Saturday, June 29, starting at 4 p.m.  It will be open for regular hours (with rentals) on Sunday, June 30 and Monday, July 1

The Bayshore Community Centre will close early on Friday, June 28, starting at 4 p.m. It will be open Saturday, June 29, for lacrosse games only.  The Bayshore will be open during regular hours on Sunday, June 30 and closed on Monday, July 1.

The YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce is open on Monday, July 1 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. with modified programming.

 

Owen Sound Police:

Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For non-emergencies, call 519-376-1234, and for emergencies, call 911.

 

Owen Sound Fire & Emergency Services:

Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For non-emergencies, call 519-376-2512, and for emergencies, call 911.

 

By-law Enforcement:

Complaints or questions can always be submitted online. Regular By-Law hours will resume on Tuesday, July 2 at 8:30 a.m.
