What’s Open & Closed in Owen Sound for Labour Day Weekend

It’s nearly time for Labour Day weekend, and the City is reminding everyone of facility closures, modified hours, and alternate programming. 

City Hall:

Closed Monday, September 2. Regular City Hall hours of operation resume at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 3.

Public Works:

Closed Monday, September 2. Regular Public Works hours of operation resume at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 3.

Transit:

Owen Sound Transit (OST) and Mobility Transit do not run on Sundays and will not run on Monday, September 2.  

Guelph Owen Sound Transit (GOST) will remain operating its regular schedule every day.

The Transit Terminal will be open 7 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. on Monday to allow for access to washrooms and GOST ticket purchases.  

Waste Management:

The Transfer Station is closed on Monday, September 2, 2024.

There is no waste collection on Monday, September 2, as scheduled in the 2024 Waste Calendar.

Compost Site:

The Leaf & Yard Waste Compost Site will be open regular hours, 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library:

The library is closed on Monday, September 2.  It is open regular hours as of 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 3.

Tom Thomson Art Gallery and Tourism Services:

The Art Gallery and Tourism Services will be open during regular hours on Saturday but closed on Sunday, September 1, and Monday, September 2.  Tourism staff will be available at the Salmon Spectacular Tourism booth (located in the tent at the Georgian Shores Marina) throughout the weekend.

Earlier this year, Council supported a pilot project to relocate Tourism, including summer Visitor Services, to the Art Gallery. This pilot will extend to the end of 2024.

Parks and Open Space Facilities:

The public washrooms at Harrison Park and Kelso Beach at Nawash Park will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. 

The Greenwood Cemetery Office at 190 2nd Ave East will be closed on Monday, September 2 and will re-open on Tuesday, September 3 at 8:30 a.m.

Recreational Facilities:

The Julie McArthur Regional Recreation Centre will be closed on Sunday, September 1, but open on Monday, September 2 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.  

The Bayshore Community Centre will be closed on Sunday, September 1 and on Monday, September 2. 

The YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce is open on Monday, September 2 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. with modified programming.  It will be closed for scheduled maintenance from September 2 through 8.

Owen Sound Police:

Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For non-emergencies, call 519-376-1234, and for emergencies, call 911.

Owen Sound Fire & Emergency Services:

Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For non-emergencies, call 519-376-2512, and for emergencies, call 911.

By-law Enforcement:

By-law complaints can be submitted online 24/7.  Regular By-Law Enforcement hours will resume on Tuesday, September 3 at 8:30 a.m.
