Seasonal Load Restrictions

Load restrictions are put into effect on our roads each year. This seasonal restriction is activated in alignment with Grey County and other local municipalities due to milder weather conditions at this time of year.

The thawing of frost lenses within the road structure results in weakened roads due to pockets of water or air within the road base.  Excess loading by heavy vehicles on weakened roads accelerates damage and deterioration of the road. Once the freeze-thaw cycles have resolved and the roads have been determined to be structurally sound, load restrictions may be lifted.

Load restrictions are typically in place from March 1 to April 30, but dates may be adjusted depending on the weather conditions. The City will issue updates to define restriction periods based on seasonal weather conditions.

Exemptions

You can apply for an exemption to the load restrictions. Please make your request in writing to:

The request must include:

• The proposed date(s)
•  Type of materials being hauled
•  Haul route
•  Load weights
•  Number of loads to be transported
