July 4, 2010Reynaldo y Su Son de Cuba On its first Canadian tour, Reynaldo y Su Son de Cuba is one of the most popular and sought after Cuban music ensembles from the tourist town of Trinidad, Cuba. Formerly known as Baragua, the group was founded in Las Tunas, Cuba in 1997, where they enjoyed a long, successful run as the popular local attraction, participating in many of the most popular music festivals on the island. The group has become known for its professionalism and dedication to the preservation and promotion of the traditional Cuban Son music style. In 2009, the group underwent a transformation, accredited to its new director and lead vocalist, the charismatic and talented sonero Reynaldo Ríos. The group's new exciting and extensive repertoire, including traditional son and Cuban salsa, both popular and original compositions, ignited by the energetic and amazing improvisational abilities of its leader, has led to its current popularity in Trinidad. Their six-member “sexteto” format includes the flute, bass, bongos, tres, guitar and minor percussion (maracas/clave). We at Harbour Nights are privileged and pleased to present you with this once-in-a-lifetime musical experience. |
