Holiday Hours and Closures in Owen Sound
During winter holidays, the City is reminding everyone of facility closures, modified hours, and alternate programming.

The River District and the City of Owen Sound are thrilled to welcome Cars & Coffee, Concours d’Lemons, and Automotive Seminars back to the area on Saturday, September 14, 2024.
Owen Sound residents are reminded of two upcoming events to help facilitate environmentally friendly and responsible ways to get rid of waste. This Saturday, September 14, is Household Hazardous Waste Day at the Public Works Facility (1900 20th Street East) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The following Saturday, September 21, is a designated Goods Exchange Day in the City of Owen Sound.
Sections of 2nd Avenue East will be closed beginning at 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 11th and Thursday, September 12th, to accommodate the removal of cross-street banners in the River District. Each avenue block will be closed individually while staff are removing the banners, and opened as the work is completed. Intersections and east-to-west streets will remain open.
On the evenings of September 7 and 8, Owen Sound City Hall will be illuminated with blue lighting for Prostate Cancer Awareness Month in support of Prostate Cancer Foundation Canada.

At the July 22, 2024, Council meeting, City Council approved Resolution number R-240722-007 for Staff Report OP-24-35 to end funding the recycling convenience depot at the Miller Waste Transfer Station on September 30, 2024.
Miller Waste Systems has confirmed that as of October 1, 2024, they will continue to operate the recycling depot services for the foreseeable future.
On Saturday, August 31, Owen Sound City Hall will be illuminated with purple lighting in honour of International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD).
The Tom Thomson Art Gallery has partnered with Coffin Ridge for another remarkable evening of wine, food, and live music at the Winery on Friday, September 6. The event, titled A Deadly Pairing, includes 10 tasting stations, live music by Higher FunKtion, live and silent auctions, a cash bar, and famous Coffin Ridge pizza for late-night nibbling.

On Sunday, August 25, 2024 at approximately 12:30PM, Owen Sound Fire and Emergency Services responded to a report of a structure fire with heavy smoke coming from a 2nd floor window in the 1000 block of 6th Ave W.
Cause of fire is due to a clothes dryer malfunction. No injuries occurred as a result of the fire. Residents are reminded to clean your lint trap and dryer vents regularly.
