As the weather gets warmer and the days get longer, it’s a great opportunity to visit Owen Sound’s parks and trails!

The Harrison Park Entrance Road (1^st Street East) and the Freedom Trail will be closed at the Park entrance pillars on Monday April 22, 2024 at 5:30 a.m. for urgent ash tree removals. All trees being removed are infected by the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB). The road and trail will re-open at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.

On Thursday, April 11, Director and Chief Curator Aidan Ware and Library CEO, Tim Nicholls Harrison were joined by artist, poet, and environmental activist Liz Zetlin to co-present on their work establishing the OPEN Team and launching Pollinate Owen Sound at the Canadian Museums Association national conference in Niagara Falls.

A section of 2nd Avenue West will be closed for several hours beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, April 22 to complete necessary Hydro One infrastructure work. 

In early 2023, Tourism and Events moved under a new cultural umbrella at the City of Owen Sound within the Community Services Department and those divisions are now overseen by the Director and Chief Curator of the Tom Thomson Art Gallery.

The new draft Master Plan was developed using public feedback together with parks best management practices, alignment with capital and operating budgets, the cultural heritage assets, and expert advice respecting the waterfowl and avian area. 

The first of eight Household Hazardous Waste Day events of 2024 is this Earth Day, Saturday, April 20! The event will be held at the Public Works Facility (1900 20th Street East) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

Earth Day Grey Bruce is hosting a community Earth Day event on Saturday, April 20. To accommodate the festivities, the 800 block of 1st Avenue West will be fully closed to vehicular traffic from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. 

With major construction taking place along Alpha Street this Spring, the City of Owen Sound is reminding residents that some Owen Sound Transit routes and bus stops are changing during the construction, beginning Monday, April 22.

The City reminds residents and visitors to keep their dogs on a leash and always clean up after their pets for the sake of the community and the environment.
